What is Gopten?
Gopten containing the active ingredient trandolapril is considered an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen to allow easier blood flow and let the heart pump blood more efficiently. It is used alone or with other drugs to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) which helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. Some patients with heart failure may also use the medication to improve survival after a heart attack.
How is Gopten used?
Gopten is usually taken once or twice daily unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The capsules can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the medication. The capsules should be swallowed whole and not cut, chewed or crushed to prevent too much of the medication from being released at one time. Do not discontinue the medication without contacting a doctor even if you feel well as high blood pressure usually has no visible symptoms. The medication is used to treat hypertension but cannot be used as a cure for the condition.
