What is Accupril?
Accupril containing the active ingredient quinapril is considered an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor type of medication. The medication works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels to allow blood to flow more smoothly and allowing the heart to pump blood more efficiently. The tablets can be used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure.
How is Accupril used?
Accupril is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. The tablets can help treat heart conditions but cannot be used to cure them. Do not discontinue the treatment thinking it is not working as it may take several weeks before the full benefits of the medication are felt.
