What is Accuretic?
Accuretic contains the active ingredients quinapril, an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and hydrochlorothiazide a diuretics type of medication. The medication can help relax blood vessels to allow for smoother blood flow and remove excess water and salt from the body. It can allow the heart to pump blood easier to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and congestive heart failure.
How is Accuretic used?
Accuretic is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Try not to take the medication within 4 hours of bedtime to prevent waking up in the middle of the night to urinate. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water throughout the duration of the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Patients using Accuretic may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dry cough
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Upset stomach
- Drowsiness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Confusion
- Dehydration
- Insomnia
- Jaundice
- High potassium levels
- Vision problems
Warnings
The medication can help control hypertension and heart failure but cannot be used to cure the conditions.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Accuretic is not always suitable for all patients.
