What is Acivir 200?
Acivir 200 containing the active ingredient acyclovir is considered a synthetic nucleoside analogue type of antiviral medication. The medication works by slowing the growth and spread of the herpes virus to allow the immune system to fight off the infection. It can be used to treat cold sores around the mouth (herpes simplex), shingles (herpes zoster) and chickenpox. Some people may also use it to treat outbreaks of genital herpes and help reduce the number of future episodes.
How is Acivir 200 used?
Acivir 200 is usually taken 2 to 5 times per day for 5 to 10 days as soon as symptoms begin or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The medication can be used to treat conditions caused by the herpes virus but cannot be used to cure herpes.
