What is Acivir 400?
Acivir 400 works by slowing the growth and spread of the herpes virus to allow the immune system to treat the infection. The active ingredient acyclovir belongs to a class of antiviral medications called synthetic nucleoside analogues. The medication can be used to treat chickenpox, shingles (herpes zoster) and cold sores around the mouth (herpes simplex). Some people may also use it to prevent future episodes and treat outbreaks of genital herpes.
How is Acivir 400 used?
Acivir 400 should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 2 to 5 times per day for 5 to 10 days as soon as symptoms begin. To prevent an upset stomach, the tablets should be taken with some food along with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the treatment. The medication can be used to treat herpes related conditions but cannot be used to cure the herpes virus.
