What is Adalat OROS?
Adalat OROS works by relaxing the muscles in the heart and blood vessels to allow for easier blood flow and allowing the heart to pump blood more efficiently. The active ingredient nifedipine belongs to a class of medication called calcium channel blockers. The medication can be used to prevent chest pain (angina) and treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It can also be used to increase the supply of oxygen and blood to the heart as well as a certain blood circulation disorder called Raynaud’s phenomenon.
How is Adalat OROS used?
Adalat OROS is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour prior to or 2 hours after a meal, along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The extended release tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, broken, split or chewed before consuming. It is advised to avoid consuming grapefruits or grapefruit juice while using the medication as it may increase the amount of the drug in the bloodstream.
