What is Advantix?
Advantix a combination medication containing imidacloprid and permethrin is used to treat parasitic infections affecting the skin on your pet. It can paralyze and eliminate organisms attempting to feed on the blood of a treated animal by disabling their nervous systems. The treatment is able to remove any current infections and prevent them from returning. The medication should be used for dogs weighing between 10-25kg only.
How is Advantix used?
Advantix is usually applied one dose once or twice per month or as directed by a veterinarian. The medication should be applied evenly to four spots from the top of the back to the tail. Part the hair at each spot until the skin is visible. Gently squeeze a portion of the solution on the skin. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on your pet’s condition, weight and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Advantix is usually very well tolerated but your pet may encounter minor side effects such as:
- Pain or burning at application site
- Irritation or rash affecting the skin
- Flaking or dry skin
- Fatigue or drowsiness

Warnings
Keep the medication away from cats or other animals.
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Advantix is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
