What is Advantix?
Advantix is a topical medication used to treat parasitic infections affecting the skin of your pet. The active ingredients in the solution paralyze and eliminate the organisms by disabling their nervous systems. This treatment is able to remove any current infections and prevent them from returning. It may also be used to treat other unlisted conditions determined by your veterinarian.
How is Advantix used?
To apply the Advantix, apply the dosage indicated to the skin where the infection is occurring. Allow the solution to remain on the skin for several hours so that it can thoroughly destroy any organisms in the area. After it has had time to work, wash the pet to remove any dead organisms and to prevent the pet from ingesting the medication later. You are also suggested to examine the hair and area of application to remove any dead parasites that remain. Keep the solution away from any mucous membranes or the face of your pet as this can cause serious health problems as well.
Adverse effects
Although uncommon, some side effects may occur in your pet while using Advantix. These can range from mild to severe and should be discussed with the veterinarian as soon as possible in case serious health problems are indicated. These can require changes to the treatment or medical attention in some cases.
Possible side effects include:
- Stinging or burning sensation
- Itching, burning, or irritation at the site of application
- Thinning or sensitivity of the skin
- Flaking or dry skin around the application area
