What is Alanase Nasal Spray?
Alanase can be used to treat symptoms of seasonal and year round allergies by preventing substances that cause inflammation from being produced. The active ingredient beclomethasone belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It can be used to treat conditions such as itching, sneezing, stuffed or runny nose. Some people may also use it to shrink nasal polyps and prevent them from returning after surgical removal.
How is Alanase Nasal Spray used?
Alanase is usually sprayed 1 to 2 times in each nostril twice daily or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition of the patient and their response to the treatment. Follow a doctor’s directions exactly to apply the nasal spray. Prior to applying the medication, it is advised to gently blow your nose to clear the nasal passages and refrain from blowing your nose for at least 15 minutes after inhaling the prescribed dose.
Adverse effects
Alanase may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Sore throat
- Nasal irritation or dryness
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Unpleasant taste or smell
- Nosebleeds
- Sneezing
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Muscle weakness
- Signs of infection
- Vision problems
- Difficulty breathing and swallowing
- Ongoing nosebleeds
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Alanase Nasal Spray is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
