What is Allersoothe?
Allersoothe works by blocking histamine and other substances from disturbing the brain. It is considered a sedating antihistamine and blocks histamine from binding to receptors to prevent allergic reaction. It is most effective from preventing histamine from binding to the receptors in the vomit centre of the brain to restrain the body from vomiting, preventing motion sickness and even as a sedative to relieve pain after surgery.
How is Allersoothe used?
Allersoothe should be taken orally with water and may be taken with or without food. For treatment of nausea, vomit or allergies the recommended dosage is usually 1 to 4 times per day. For treatment of motion sickness, patient should take the medication 30 to 60 minutes before travel. For long distance traveling, a second dose may be taken after 8 hours. The exact dosage will depend on the patient and the use of the medication, consult your doctor for the correct dosage.
Adverse effects
Allersoothe may cause side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Headache
Contact your doctor should you encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Uncontrollable twitching
- Blurry vision
- Seizures
- Ringing in ears
- Mood or mental changes
- Fainting
- Signs of infection
Warnings
Use with caution in children under the age of 2 as medication may cause slow or shallow breathing that may be fatal.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Allersoothe is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
