What is Alphamox?
Alphamox containing the active ingredient amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic type of medication. The medication works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the body. The capsules can be used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, gonorrhea, E. coli as well as infections of the ear, nose, throat, urinary tract and skin. It can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
How is Alphamox used?
Alphamox is usually taken 2 to 3 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The capsules can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Continue to take the medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days, as abruptly discontinuing the medication may cause the infection to return and the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.
Adverse effects
Patients using Alphamox may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Upset stomach
- Headaches
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Oral thrush or new vaginal yeast infection
- Jaundice
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Fever
- Seizures
- Severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Alphamox is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
