What is Alphamox?
Alphamox works by stopping the growth of bacteria in the body. The active ingredient amoxycillin belongs to a class of medications called penicillin antibiotics. The capsules can be used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as E. coli, gonorrhea, bronchitis, pneumonia as well as infections of the skin, throat, nose, ear and urinary tract. It can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
How is Alphamox used?
Alphamox is usually taken every 6 to 8 hours or as directed by a doctor. The capsules should be taken with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment but can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the therapy. Continue to take the medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear before the medication is complete as abruptly discontinue the medication may cause the infection to return and the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.
Adverse effects
Alphamox may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Nausea
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
- Severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
- Seizures
- Fever
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Jaundice
- Oral thrush or new vaginal yeast infection
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Alphamox is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
