What is Amitrip-25?
Amitrip-25 is a tricyclic antidepressant that helps balance chemicals in the brain to maintain mental balance. It prevents serotonin and noradrenaline from being reabsorbed back into the brain to prolong mood lightening effects that can help relieve depression. It can be used to decrease anxiety and tension, sleep better and increase energy levels. Some patients use it to treat nerve pain, eating disorders or preventing migraine headaches. Some people even use it to treat bedwetting for kids.
How is Amitrip-25 used?
Amitrip-25 is usually taken orally 1 to 4 times per day. If you only take the medication 1 time per day, it should be taken near bed time to prevent daytime drowsiness. The dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. It is not recommended to take more or less than the prescribed amount, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Patients may feel the effectiveness of the medication after a few weeks, however, do not stop medication without contacting a doctor as symptoms may return worse than before.
Adverse effects
Patients using Amitrip-25 may encounter side effects such as:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Unpleasant taste in mouth
- Blurred vision
- Constipation
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Chest pain
- Sudden numbness
- Irregular heartbeat
- Difficulty passing urine
- Speech difficulty
- Fainting
- Jaundice
Warnings
The medication should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitor antidepressants (MAOI) or moclobemide treatments as they my interact with amitriptyline hydrochloride.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Amitrip-25 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
