What is Ampisyn-250?
Ampisyn containing the active ingredient ampicillin is a penicillin antibiotic type of medication. The medication works by fighting bacteria in the body to treat infections. The capsules can be used to treat bacterial infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, E. coli or salmonella infections as well as ear, lung, skin, bladder and urinary tract infections. The capsules can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
How is Ampisyn-250 used?
Ampisyn is usually taken 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour prior to or 2 hours after eating a meal. The medicine should be taken with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication until the fully prescribed amount is complete as abruptly stopping the treatment may allow the infection to return and the bacteria to be immune to the antibiotics.
Adverse effects
Patients using Ampisyn may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Upset stomach
- Mouth or tongue sores
- Oral thrush
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Jaundice
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Seizures
- Vaginal yeast infection
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Fever or flu like symptoms
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ampisyn-250 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
