What is Antirobe?
Antirobe with the active ingredient clindamycin hydrochloride is an antibiotic used to treat anaerobic bacterial infections in cats and dogs. It works by slowing, stopping the growth and killing the bacteria that has caused the infection. It can be used to treat bacterial infections in the internal organs, skin, blood, teeth, bones or joints. It cannot be used to treat infections caused by parasites, fungi, mites or viruses.
How is Antirobe used?
Antirobe should be taken orally 1 to 2 times daily for a maximum of 28 days. Dosage and the length of treatment will depend on the pet’s weight and the type of infection it is being treated for, contact a veterinarian for correct dosage. It is important to complete the prescribed course of the antibiotic to prevent the infection from returning and the body becoming immune to the antibiotic.
Adverse effects
Pets using Antirobe may encounter side effects such as:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Decrease in appetite
- Drooling
Contact a veterinarian should the pet have watery or bloody diarrhea.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Antirobe is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
