What is Apo-Amoxi?
Apo-Amoxi containing the active ingredient amoxicillin is considered a penicillin type of antibiotics. The medication is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is effective in treating a wide range of infections caused by bacteria. By stopping the growth of bacteria it can be used to treat conditions such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, sinusitis, otitis media as well as infections to the nose, throat, skin and urinary tract (UTI). Some patients may also use it along with other antibiotics to treat stomach ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria.
How is Apo-Amoxi used?
Apo-Amoxi is usually taken orally 3 times daily at least 8 hours apart or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be swallowed with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The capsules should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or broken prior to consumption.
Adverse effects
Patients using Apo-Amoxi may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Jaundice
- Excessive fatigue
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Apo-Amoxi is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
