What is Apo-Prednisone?
Apo-Prednisone is a corticosteroid that prevents certain chemicals from entering the immune system and reducing inflammation in the body. It works by acting within cells to prevent the release of certain chemicals involved in producing immune and allergic responses. It may be used to treat inflammation type symptoms such as asthma, multiple sclerosis, allergic disorders, lupus, skin conditions, arthritis and various conditions that affect the intestines, lung, kidney and stomach.
How is Apo-Prednisone used?
It is recommended to take Apo-Prednisone with a meal or a glass of milk to prevent an upset stomach. The tablets are usually taken whole 1 to 4 times per day with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Always continue with the treatment, even if symptoms seem to be healed, as abruptly stopping the medication may lead to severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Patients using Apo-Prednisone may encounter side effects such as:
- Loss of appetite
- Stomach pain
- Dizziness
- Insomnia
- Headache
- Increased sweating
- Acne
- Vomiting
- Nausea

- Black, bloody or tarry stool

- Blurry vision
Warnings
The medication may lead to a failed urine test. Let your examiner know you are taking this medication before any urine tests.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Apo-Prednisone is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
