What is Aquazide-25?
Aquazide can help prevent fluid retention by causing the kidney to get rid of excess water and salt through urine. The active ingredient hydrochlorothiazide is considered a water pill or thiazide diuretics type of medication. The medication can be used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (fluid retention) caused by conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease or heart failure. Treating hypertension can help prevent heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.
How is Aquazide-25 used?
Aquazide should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. To prevent waking up in the middle of the night to urinate, it is recommended to take the medication 4 hours prior to bedtime. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor, even if you feel well, as hypertension usually has no visible symptoms.
Adverse effects
Aquazide may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Dehydration
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Upset stomach
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
- Jaundice
- Muscle or joint pain
- Irregular heartbeat
- Vision problems
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Aquazide-25 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
