What is Arcoxia?
Arcoxia with the active ingredient etoricoxib is classified as a selective inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase 2 nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking certain substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Some people may use the medication to treat or relieve chronic musculoskeletal pain, acute pain and ankylosing spondylitis but it is mainly prescribed to treat osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis.
How is Arcoxia used?
Arcoxia is usually taken orally once daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with food to prevent an upset stomach but it works quicker if taken without food. The drug should be swallowed whole with plenty of water and not chewed, crushed or split to prevent too much of the medication from being released at the same time. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s reaction to the medication and the condition being treated. It can be used to treat and control arthritis symptoms but cannot be used as a cure for it.
