What is Arrow-Amitriptyline?
Arrow-Amitriptyline works by preventing the natural substances noradrenaline and serotonin from being reabsorbed into the nerve cells in the brain to prolong the mood lightening effects they provide. The medication belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants (TCA). In the past the tablets were used in the treatment of depression but recently they are more predominantly used to treat certain types of nerve pain, migraine headaches and nocturnal bedwetting in children below 6 years of age.
How is Arrow-Amitriptyline used?
Arrow-Amitriptyline should only be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 4 times per day. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. The dosage and length of treatment will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Do not stop the treatment without consulting a doctor as abruptly discontinuing the medication may cause severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Arrow-Amitriptyline may cause side effects such as:

- Dry mouth
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persists or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Mental or mood changes
- Difficulty sleeping
- Changes in appetite or weight
- Decreased sex drive or ability
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty passing urine
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Arrow-Amitriptyline is not always suitable for all patients.
