What is Arrow-Dortim?
Arrow-Dortim Opthalmic Solution reduces increased ocular pressure (IOP) in the eyes, usually as a result of glaucoma. The active ingredients in Arrow-Dortim are Dorzolamide Hydrochloride and Timolo Maleate. Dorzolamide HCl is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and Timolo Maleate is a beta-blocker. Combining these two drugs provides decreased fluid production in the eye which reduces the pressure.
How is Arrow-Dortim used?
Arrow-Dortim is a 5mL bottle of Opthalmic Solution and includes a dropper for easy application into the affected eyes. Each mL of solution contains 20mg of Dorzolamide Hydrochloride and 5mg of Timolo Maleate. Positive results are usually obtained by applying one drop to each affected eye twice daily.
Administer your Arrow-Dortim opthalmic solution using these steps:
- wash your hands thoroughly using sopa and water
- if you wear contact lenses, remove these
- tilt your head backwards (looking toward the ceiling), while keeping your eye open
- pull down and out on your lower eyelid to create a small pocket
- hold the bottle upside down directly above the eye, making sure that the dropper and the affected eye do not come into contact
- squeeze the bottle gently until a drop falls into the pocked between the eyelid and eye
- close your eyes and keep them closed while pressing a finger against the inside corner of your eye (between the eye and nose)
- reseal the bottle carefully
Any other opthalmic treatments being taken should be applied at least ten minutes before or after applying Arrow-Dortim.
Adverse effects
The most common side effects of Arrow-Dortim are a burning or stinging senstaion in the eye, and taste abnormalities. These generally occur immediately after applying the drops and stop soon afterwards.
Dorzolamide Hydrochloride and Timolo Maleate has been known to cause some other side effects in rare cases. These may include cardiovascular abnormalities, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, urinary tract infection, upper respiratory tract infection, and flu-like symptoms.
Contact your doctor immediately if you show any signs that you may be allergic to Arrow-Dortim. You may need to stop taking it in this case.
