What is Arrow-Simva?
Arrow-Simva containing the active ingredient simvastatin belongs to a class of medications called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or statins. The medication works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body to decrease the amount of “bad” cholesterol (low density lipoprotein, LDL) and triglycerides while raising “good” cholesterol (high density lipoprotein, HDL) in the blood. The tablets should be used along with a proper diet, exercise schedule, weight loss and other lifestyle changes to lower high cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of strokes, heart attacks and other heart complications.
How is Arrow-Simva used?
Arrow-Simva is usually taken orally once daily in the evening or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken with or just after a meal along with a drink of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The recommended maximum dosage is 40mg in 24 hours. Do not take too much of this medication as it may cause serious and even life threatening side effects.
Adverse effects
Patients using Arrow-Simva may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Constipation
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Muscle or joint pain
- Weakness
- Sleep disturbances
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Jaundice
- Mental or mood changes
- Pain or burning during urination
- Dark urine
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Warnings
It is recommended to avoid consuming grapefruits and grapefruit juice as they may increase the amount of the drug in your bloodstream.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Arrow-Simva is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
