What is Atacand?
Atacand works by blocking certain natural substances in the body to allow easier blood flow and enabling the heart to pump blood more efficiently by relaxing the blood vessels. The active ingredient candesartan cilexetil belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The tablets can be taken alone or along with other medication to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and congestive heart failure. Controlling high blood pressure can help reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.
How is Atacand used?
Atacand should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The medication should be taken with a full glass of water but can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the treatment. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor, even if you feel well, as hypertension usually has not visible symptoms.
