What is Atrovent Inhaler?
Atrovent Inhaler with the active ingredient ipratropium bromide is a bronchodilator used to control and prevent symptoms caused by ongoing lung diseases. It can open up the airways by relaxing the muscles around the airways and allow increased air flow to the lungs. The medication can help with symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and chest tightness in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma.
How is Atrovent Inhaler used?
Atrovent Inhaler should be used as directed by a doctor, usually inhaled 4 times per day. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. The maximum recommended dosage for the medication is 12 puffs in a 24 hour span. Before the initial dose or if the inhaler has not been used for more than 3 days, the inhaler will need to be primed before use. To prime the inhaler direct the nozzle away from the face and apply 2 test sprays. Breathe out as completely as possible through the mouth before applying the spray. Press down firmly on the canister and breathe in slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece. Hold your breath for 10 seconds before removing the inhaler and breathe out slowly. If you require multiple doses, wait at least 15 seconds before administering the second spray.
