What is Aurorix?
Aurorix containing the active ingredient moclobemide is known as a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type A (RIMA) type of antidepressant. It works by reducing the action of monoamine oxidase A to increase the level of noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin in the brain to ease the symptoms of depression. It should be used to help treat depression when other antidepressant medication has not been successful. Some people may also use the medication to treat social anxiety disorders.
How is Aurorix used?
Aurorix should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually twice daily in evenly spaced intervals. To prevent an upset stomach, the tablets should be taken with or just after a meal along with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The recommended maximum dosage is 600mg per day.
Adverse effects
Patients using Aurorix may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Dry mouth
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Skin reactions
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Vision disturbances
- Sleep disturbances
- Anxiety
- Restlessness
- Agitation
- Oedema
- Confusion
Warnings
The medication should not be taken with any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) or tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) as it may cause an unwanted drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Aurorix is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
