What is Aurorix?
Aurorix works by reducing the action of monoamine oxidase A to increase the levels of dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain to ease the symptoms of depression. The active ingredient moclobemide is considered a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type A (RIMA) type of antidepressant. It should be used to help treat depression when other antidepressant medications have not been successful. Some people may also use the medication to treat social anxiety disorders.
How is Aurorix used?
Aurorix is usually taken orally twice daily in evenly spaced intervals or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with or just after a meal along with plenty of water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The recommended maximum dosage is 600mg daily.
Adverse effects
Aurorix may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Skin reactions
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
- Dizziness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Confusion
- Oedema
- Agitation
- Restlessness
- Anxiety
- Sleep disturbances
- Vision disturbances
Warnings
The medication should not be taken with any tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) as it may cause an unwanted drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Aurorix is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
