What is Azodyl?
Azodyl is a nutritional supplement containing a mix of natural beneficial bacteria (kibow biotics). The capsules can help remove harmful uremic toxins that have accumulated in the bloodstream and intestines to slow down toxin buildup and prevent further kidney damage. The medication is released in the large intestines and works by eating up the uremic toxins and carries them out as they pass out of the body. It can be used to treat azotemia in cats and dogs who suffer from chronic kidney disease or renal failure.
How is Azodyl used?
Azodyl is usually given orally to the pet 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a veterinarian. The capsules should be given at least 1 hour before the main meal and should always be given whole and not broken, crushed or split prior to consumption. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on your pet’s weight, condition and their response to the therapy. The recommended dosage for pets up to 5lbs is 1 capsule daily, animals weighing 5 to 10lbs should be given 1 capsule in the morning and 1 capsule at night while pets weighing greater than 10lbs should be given 2 capsules in the morning and 1 capsule at night.
