What is Baytril Otic?
Baytril Otic is a combination of enrofloxacin and silver sulfadiazine. Enrofloxacin is a quick bacteria killing agent while silver sulfadiazine suppresses and kills fungal microorganisms. Together the two active ingredients is a water based topical solution used to sooth and treat otitis externa in pets.
How is Baytril Otic used?
Baytril Otic should be dropped into to the pet’s ear twice daily for up to 14 days. Thoroughly clean and dry the infected ear before applying the topical solution. Shake well before use. Apply 5 to 10 drops if the canine is less than 16kg. For canines that weigh over 16kg, the recommended dosage is 10 to 15 drops. Gently massage the ear to ensure complete and uniform distribution of the medication.
Adverse effects
Baytril Otic may cause side effects such as:
- Increased redness of the ear
- Hearing loss
- Loss of balance
- Acute inflammation of the ear canal and pinna
Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Baytril Otic is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the animal and the condition being treated. Do not adjust the dosage without the approval of your veterinarian. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
