What is Betamil Cream?
Betamil Cream containing the active ingredient betamethasone dipropionate is a potent topical corticosteroid type of medication. The cream works by acting inside the skin cells to decrease the release of certain inflammatory substances that cause itching, redness and swelling. The medication can be used in the treatment of a variety of skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis flare ups.
How is Betamil Cream used?
Betamil Cream is usually applied topically 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Prior to applying the medication, clean and dry your hands and the affected area with mild soap and water. Apply a thin film of the cream to the affected area and gently massage it in until it disappears. It is not recommended to wear tight clothing or wrap the affected area in dressing after applying the medication.
Adverse effects
Patients using Betamil Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Burning, itching or irritation at application site
- Drying or cracking of the skin
- Skin discoloration
- Easy bruising
- Thinning of the skin
- Acne
- Stretch marks
- Excessive hair growth
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Betamil Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
