Uses
Bioclan (Clindamycin) is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the group lincosamides, which is used for treatment respiratory infections, infections of bones and joints, purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues, septicemia (primarily anaerobic), pelvic infections and intra-abdominal infections, gynecological diseases, infections of the oral cavity, dental infections, pneumonia, sepsis, bacterial endocarditis.
Bioclan (Clindamycin) binds with the 50S ribosomal subunit of the microbial cell (blocks it) and inhibits protein synthesis of sensitive microorganisms. Susceptible bacteria include Staphylococcus Intermedius, Staphylococcus Aureus, Clostridium Perfringens, Fusobacterium Necrophorum, Streptococcus spp. and various others.
Bioclan (Clindamycin) has a bacteriostatic effect, in high concentrations and can be bactericidal against highly sensitive microorganisms.
The mechanism of action and the antimicrobial spectrum is close to lincomycin (for some types of microorganisms, it is 2–10 times more active).
Dosage and Administration
Always follow your veterinarian`s instructions when using Bioclan (Clindamycin) to get the safest and most effective results from treatment. Dosage depends on the type of animal, its weight and disease.
For dogs the recommended dose is 5.5-33 mg/kg, for cats - 11-33 mg/kg.
Typically, the duration of treatment is 14-28 days.
If the effect is absent within 3-4 days of starting treatment with the drug, you must stop the treatment and re-consult with the veterinarian.
Side effects
The use of Bioclan (Clindamycin) may cause side effects in some animals, such as diarrhea and vomiting. Carefully follow your pet when clindamycin is being treated. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your animal has any serious or worrying symptoms.
Precautions
Bioclan (Clindamycin) can be used only for the treatment of animals. Treatment of people with this drug is prohibited.
You can not use a drug for the treatment of animals that previously had hypersensitivity to clindamycin.
