What is Butop?
Butop containing the active ingredient butenafine is considered an antifungal type of medication. The medication works by preventing the growth and spread of fungus. The cream can be used to treat a verity of fungal skin infections such as jock itch, athlete’s foot and ringworms. Some people may also use it to treat a skin condition called pityriasis.
How is Butop used?
Butop should be applied topically 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Before applying the cream, clean and dry your hands along with the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of the medication to and around the affected area and gently massage it in. Do not use dressing or cover the area unless otherwise directed by a doctor. Wash your hands immediately after applying the medication.
Adverse effects
Butop is generally very well tolerated but some patients may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Burning, irritation, redness or itching at application site
- Dizziness
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
- Rash
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Contact a doctor if the infection does not clear up after 4 weeks of treatment or it appears to get worse.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Butop is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
