What is Casodex?
Casodex works by blocking and reducing the amount of androgens, such as testosterone from being produced by the body. The active ingredient bicalutamide is classified as an anti-androgens type of medication. It can be used to treat prostate cancer when used alone or in combination with other medications as cancer cells require male hormones to grow.
How is Casodex used?
Casodex should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s reaction to the therapy. The medication can help stop the growth and spreading of cancerous cells but cannot be used to cure prostate cancer. It is not advised to discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as prematurely stopping the medication may lead to a relapse in the patient’s condition.
