What is Catalin?
Catalin containing the active ingredient pirenoxine is considered an anti-cataract agent with ditopic recognition properties. The medication is effective in inhibiting lens opacification by clearing the cloudiness obstructing the transmission of images to the retina. It is an alternative to surgery in the treatment of senile cataracts, mild diabetic cataracts or congenital cataracts.
How is Catalin used?
Catalin should be dropped directly into the eye 5 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the treatment. Prior to applying the solution, wash your hands with soap and water. Dissolve the tablet in the 15ml bottle of solvent and shake well. To apply the medication pull down the bottom of the eyelid to form a pouch and tilt the head back. Administer 1 to 2 drops of the solution into the pouch and close your eyes for around 30 seconds. Place a finger on the inside corner of the eye and gently apply pressure to prevent any leakage.
Adverse effects
Catalin is very well tolerated with no known side effects.
