What is CeeNU?
CeeNU containing the active ingredient lomustine belongs to a class of medications called alkylating agents. The medication works by preventing the growth and multiplying of cancerous cells in the body. It is mainly prescribed to be used alone or with other drugs to treat brain tumors and Hodgkin’s lymphoma (Hodgkin’s disease) if the condition has not improved after other types of treatment. Some people may also use it to treat other types of cancer.
How is CeeNU used?
CeeNU is usually taken orally once every 6 weeks or as directed by a doctor. The medication may cause nausea and vomiting, to reduce the risk of side effects it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach along with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatments as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The capsules should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed or broken prior to consumption.
Adverse effects
Patients using CeeNU may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea
- Mouth sores
- Hair loss
- Feeling disoriented or confused
- Slurred or stuttering speech
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
CeeNU is not always suitable for all patients.
