What is Cefdiel 300?
Cefdiel containing the active ingredient cefdinir is considered a cephalosporin antibiotic type of medication. The medication works by stopping the growth and killing bacteria that causes infections. It can be used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis and skin infections. The capsules can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold and flu.
How is Cefdiel 300 used?
Cefdiel should be taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The capsules can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The maximum recommended dosage is 600mg every 24 hours. Always take the medication for the full prescribed course, even if symptoms are completely cleared, as abruptly discontinuing the treatment may cause a relapse in the condition and cause the bacteria to become immune to the antibiotic.
Adverse effects
Patients using Cefdiel may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Loss of appetite
- Vaginal itching or discharge
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Seizures
- Jaundice
- Unusual fatigue
- New signs of infection
- Mental or mood changes
- Change in the amount of urine
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Cefdiel 300 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
