What is Cerenia?
Cerenia containing the active ingredient maropitant is used to prevent acute vomiting in dogs. It works by blocking the vomiting signals in the dog's brain to help prevent vomiting. The tablets are mainly used to prevent vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs. The medication is a non-sedating type of treatment to allow your dog to arrive at the destination ready for fun.
How is Cerenia used?
Cerenia can be given once per day for up to 2 days in a row or as directed by a veterinarian. The tablets should be at given around 2 hours prior to travel and at least 1 hour prior to a meal. Contact a veterinarian for correct dosage as it will depend on the dog's weight, condition and their response to the medication.
Adverse effects
Cerenia is usually well tolerated but some dogs may encounter side effects such as:
- Excessive drooling
- Lethargy
- Lack of appetite
- Diarrhea
