What is Chlorsig Eye?
Chlorsig Eye containing the active ingredient chloramphenicol is considered an antibacterial eye preparation. The medication works by killing or slowing the growth of sensitive bacteria causing infections. It can be used to treat conjunctivitis, when the eye becomes inflamed, feel gritty and become watery.
How is Chlorsig Eye used?
Chlorsig Eye is usually applied to the eye 3 or 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and frequency of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Prior to applying the ointment, wash and dry your hands thoroughly. To apply the medication, tilt the head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place a strip of ointment into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Roll the eyeball in all directions to spread the medication. Repeat for the other eye if so directed.
Adverse effects
Patients using Chlorsig Eye may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Blurred vision
- Burning, stinging or redness of the eye
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Chlorsig Eye is not always suitable for all patients.
