What is Cipflox 500mg?
Cipflox works by fighting, stopping the growth and killing bacteria that causes infections. The active ingredient ciprofloxacin hydrochloride belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. The medication can be used to treat bacterial infections such as gonorrhea, conjunctivitis, otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and skin infections. Another use of the medication is to prevent or treat anthrax if the patient has been exposed to the anthrax germs in the air. The tablets can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the flu or common cold.
How is Cipflox 500mg used?
Cipflox should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually twice per day. The medication should be taken with a glass of water but can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the treatment. As the tablets may have a bitter taste, it is recommended to swallow them whole and not chewed, split or crushed. Do not discontinue the medication until the full prescribed cycle is complete, even if all symptoms have healed, as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause the infection to return and the bacteria to become immune to the antibiotics.
Adverse effects
Cipflox may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Vaginal itching or discharge
- Vomiting
- Headaches
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Signs of new infection
- Depression
- Confusion
- Joint or muscle pain
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Jaundice
- Vision problems
- Seizures
Warnings
The medication may cause sudden, serious and potentially permanent nerve damage.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Cipflox 500mg is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
