What is Ciplox-500?
Ciplox containing the active ingredient ciprofloxacin hydrochloride works by stopping the growth and killing bacteria that cause infections. The tablets belong to a class of medications called fluoroquinolones. The medication can be used to treat a variety of conditions caused by bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, sinusitis, otitis media, bronchitis and pneumonia. Some people may also use it to prevent or treat anthrax after exposure.
How is Ciplox-500 used?
Ciplox should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually twice daily. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. To prevent tasting the bitterness of the drug, it is recommended to swallow the tablets whole and not crushed, chewed or split. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as stopping the treatment prematurely may cause the infection to return and becoming resistant to the antibiotic.
Adverse effects
Ciplox may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Insomnia
- Drowsiness
- Vomiting
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Change in color or urine
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Mental or mood changes
- Easy bruising or bleeding
- Jaundice
- Seizures
Warnings
The medication will not treat viral infections such as the flu or the common cold.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ciplox-500 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
