What is Cipril-10?
Cipril containing the active ingredient lisinopril is considered an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor type of medication. The medication works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels so blood flows more smoothly and allow the heart to pump blood more efficiently. It is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) as well as heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack. Treating high blood pressure can help prevent the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.
How is Cipril-10 used?
Cipril is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The doctor may start you on a low dose and gradually increase dosage to the optimal dosage. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as there are usually no visible symptoms of high blood pressure.
Adverse effects
Patients using Cipril may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Dry cough
- Vomiting
- Low blood pressure
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Fainting
- High potassium blood level
- Slow or irregular heartbeat
- Signs of infection
- Change in amount of urine
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Sleeping problems
- Chest pain
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat hypertension but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Cipril-10 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
