What is Claritine?
Claritine containing the active ingredient loratadine belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, the substance that causes allergic reactions in the body. It is used to treat symptoms such as itching or redness caused by hives, runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing caused by hay fever and other allergies. The medication does not prevent hives or other allergic skin reactions.
How is Claritine used?
Claritine is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the medication. The medication should be taken whole and should not be crushed, chewed or broken. Do not use the medication to treat hives that are blistered, bruised or if they are an unusual color.
