What is Clavet-500?
Clavet-500 is considered a broad spectrum combination antibiotics type of medication. The active ingredients amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium works by inhibiting bacteria from building cell walls to prevent gram negative and gram positive bacteria from growing and eventually die. It can be used to treat pyodermas and urinary tract infections as well as soft tissue or skin infections such as abscesses, wounds and cellulitis.
How is Clavet-500 used?
Clavet-500 should be given to the pet as directed by a veterinarian, usually twice per day. The tablets can be hidden in the pet’s food or hand fed to the pet directly. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the pet’s weight, condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without completing the prescribed amount as prematurely discontinuing the treatment may allow the infection to return and become immune to the antibiotics.
Adverse effects
Clavet-500 may cause minor side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Stomach irritation
- Breathing problems
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Decreased appetite
Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
