What is Cleocin?
Cleocin Vaginal Cream containing the active ingredient clindamycin belongs to a group of medications called lincomycin antibiotics. The cream can be used to treat certain bacterial infections by killing the bacteria causing the infection. It is used to treat a common condition of the vagina called bacterial vaginosis which can cause vaginal discharge. The medication cannot be used to treat vaginal irritation caused by yeast infections or sexually transmitted diseases.
How is Cleocin used?
Cleocin Vaginal Cream should be applied topically once per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. The cream should be applied with a disposable applicator into the vagina at bedtime. To prevent the medication from leaking out from the vagina, it is advised to lie down as soon as possible after applying the cream. The patient should finish the prescribed course as prematurely discontinuing the medication can lead to the infection returning.
Adverse effects
Women using Cleocin Vaginal Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Upset stomach
- Constipation
- Vaginal pain, itching or discharge
- Changes in the menstrual period
- Vertigo

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Cleocin is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
