What is Colgout?
Colgout can be used to treat sudden gout attacks and to prevent gout. Gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood that form hard crystals in one or a few joints. The active ingredient colchicine works by lessening the built up uric acid crystals and decreasing the amount of uric acid in the bloodstream to relieve pain in the affected joints. Some people may also use it to relieve chest, joint and abdominal pain caused by an inherited disease called familial Mediterranean fever.
How is Colgout used?
Colgout is usually taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 2 times daily. The tablets should be taken with plenty of water and can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. The treatment can be used to treat pain caused by acute gout symptoms but cannot be used as pain relief for other conditions. Consult a doctor prior to discontinuing the treatment as abruptly stopping the medication may cause a relapse in the patient’s condition.
