What is Cosopt?
Cosopt contains 2 active ingredients timolo maleate, a beta blocker and dorzolamide hydrochloride which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor type of medication. The solution works by reducing the amount of fluids in the eye to decrease the pressure inside the eye. It can be used to prevent nerve damage, blindness caused by open angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension and other eye diseases.
How is Cosopt used?
Cosopt should be administered 2 times per day to the affected eye unless otherwise directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Prior to applying the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Tilt the head back and pull down the lower eye lid with an index finger to form a pocket. Look up and away while dropping one drop of the medication into the pocket. Close the eye, place a finger on the tear duct and apply gentle pressure to prevent any leaking of the solution. Tilt the head down for 2 to 3 minutes as though looking at the floor before reopening the eyes. Repeat as necessary for any additional doses in each affected eye.
