What is Crinone 8% Vaginal Gel?
Crinone contains the active ingredient progesterone, which is a naturally occurring female sex hormone. It is used to treat infertility in women due to inadequate luteal phase. It works by preparing the womb to receive a fertilized egg. It can be used to support pregnancy in woman having in vitro fertilization (IVF) if the gel is used daily. Some women also use the medication to restore and regulate menstrual cycles when their cycles have stopped. This can help reduce the risk of developing certain diseases.
How is Crinone 8% Vaginal Gel used?
Crinone is a medication for vaginal use only. The gel is inserted into the vagina from the pre-filled application. The gel will coat the inside of the vagina and provide prolonged release of progesterone into the vagina, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream. Contact a doctor for correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication.
Adverse effects
Women using Crinone may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Bloating
- Stomach cramps
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Breast pain or tenderness
- Joint or muscle pain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Numbness on one side of the body
- Vision problems
- Irregular heartbeats
- Chest pain
- Unusual or unexpected vaginal bleeding
- Mental or mood changes
- Unusual or rapid weight gain
Warnings
If directed to use other vaginal products, separate their application from this treatment by at least 6 hours.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Crinone 8% Vaginal Gel is not always suitable for all patients.
