What is Crotorax Cream?
Crotorax Cream containing the active ingredient crotamiton is considered an antipruritic and scabicides type of medication. It works by killing mites and producing counter-irritations that produce a cooling effect to help divert your attention away from the itching. The medication is mainly prescribed as a topical type of medication in the treatment scabies. Some patients may also use the cream in the treatment of chickenpox, eczema, sunburn, rashes and insect bites or stings.
How is Crotorax Cream used?
Crotorax Cream is usually applied topically 2 to 3 times daily with a delay of 24 hours between applications unless otherwise directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Take a bath 48 hours after the last application to remove the cream from the skin. Do not apply the cream to broken skin or wounds as it could cause too much of the medication to be absorbed by your body. To prevent re-infection, change and wash all clothing, towels and bed linens with a strong cleanser in hot water or dry cleaned to remove any mites or eggs.
Adverse effects
Patients using Crotorax Cream may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Worsening skin irritation
- Mild itching, burning or stinging at application site
- Dizziness
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Crotorax Cream is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
