What is Denosyl?
Denosyl containing the active ingredient S-Adenosylmethionine is considered a nutrient supplement for cats and dogs. The medication can increase the levels of glutathione, an important antioxidant to protect the pet’s cells from dangerous toxins. It can help improve liver health, protect liver cells from death and even assist with cell repair and regeneration. Some studies have also shown the medication can help support brain health as well as improving the pet’s quality of life and extend their life span.
How is Denosyl used?
The 225mg Denosyl tablet should be given to pets that weight between 6kg and 15.5kg. The tablets should be given whole and not broken or split up, once per day or as directed by a veterinarian. For optimal absorption of the drug, it should be given to the pet at least one hour before feeding along with some water. Contact a veterinarian for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the pet’s weight, condition and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Denosyl is generally well tolerated with no known side effects.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Denosyl is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
