What is Depsol?
Depsol with the active ingredient imipramine hydrochloride is considered a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) type of medication. It works by preventing certain natural substances called noradrenaline and serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain to prolong their mood lightening effects and restore mental balance. It may help improve the appetite, sleeping habits, energy levels and mood in patients. It is mainly prescribed to treat certain types of anxiety disorders, panic disorders, chronic pain and major depressive disorders. Some people may also use the medication to treat nighttime bed wetting with children.

How is Depsol used?
Depsol is usually taken orally 1 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the medication. The patient may not feel the full effects of the medication immediately as it may take up to 3 weeks before the full effects of the treatment is felt. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the medication may cause the patient’s condition to worsen or encounter severe withdrawal symptoms.

Patients using Depsol may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Vomiting

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Depsol is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
