What is Derma-Vet?
Derma-Vet ointment is a combination treatment for dogs and cats. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antibacterial and antifungal effects. The active ingredients in the ointment are nystatin, neomycin sulfate, thiostrepton, and triamcinolone acetonide.
Derma-Vet Ointment can help treat several cutaneous disorders in cats and dogs. This includes including otitis (ear infections), interdigital cysts, anal gland infections (dogs only) and dermatologic disorders (eczematous dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and dermatitis resulting from parasitic infestation).
How is Derma-Vet used?
Some conditions will need frequent re-application of ointment (two or three times daily). Other treatments will require less frequent application.
Otitis Treatment: clean any cerumen or foreign matter out of the ear canal before dropping 3 to 5 drops of Derma-Vet Ointment into the canal.
Treatment of Infected anal glands or cystic areas: completely drain the gland or cyst before filling with Derma-Vet Ointment.
Dermatitis treatment or treatment of other dermatologic disorders: clean the area thoroughly before sparingly applying Derma-Vet Ointment in a thin coat to the affected area.
Wear gloves while applying Derma-Vet ointment, and wash your hands thoroughly after treatment.
Adverse effects
Derma-Vet Ointment will cause no unwanted side effects in the majority of treatments. Some animals may have a sensitivity to neomycin which may result in swelling, redness, itchiness, irritation of the skin. Vomiting and diarrhea may occur during treatment. Hearing loss has been reported in some cases of treatment of otitis, however this usually regresses after treatment has stopped.

Warnings
Derma-Vet Ointment is for use in dogs and cats only. It must be used by humans or on other animals.
Derma-Vet Ointment ishould not be applied to pregnant dogs or caats as it can cause fetal death or birth defects.
Derma-Vet Ointment is a topical treatment. It must not be ingested.
